SCREAM 5 IS HAPPENING

Although Scream 4 underperformed in the U.S. (it did go up against the kiddie film Rio), producer Harvey Weinstein spoke to MTV at Cannes that this may not be the last you've heard from Ghost Face. I should also add that Scream 4 did do quite well overseas, and I'm sure with the DVD release and On Demand cable release, it will make some of it's U.S. money back if not more.
"I'm sure [director Wes Craven is] going to do a sequel, I'm sure he's going to do a sequel," Weinstein said. He added that Scream 4 had a box office boost thanks to overseas audiences. "Foreign [sales] are so strong that we'll do over $100 million worldwide. It's at $90 now, with about five or six major countries to go and a lot of small ones. We'll probably do $110 million."

While doing press for the fourth film, Craven said he's down for directing another sequel as long as there's a strong script. It was also reported around the time of shooting Scream 4 that Kevin Williamson had plans for a new trilogy mapped out. Should Williamson return as screenwriter, might I suggest going a bit darker in tone, heavy on suspense, and a little light on the self-aware laughs. Also bring Hayden Pannetierre's Kirby back. Like Randy, she was a fan favorite and deserves another go-round with Ghost face.
