Even though her album won't be officially brought into the world until Monday, it looks like Born This Way has gone into labor prematurely because Gaga's album has already leaked online. I just finished listening to it, and I realized something. If you listen to the record as a whole it flows perfectly and tells a story. The moment you pick it apart separately in single form is when the album falls into cluttered mess territory. I definitely see the direction she was going in with Born This Way. She wanted to take the influences of 80's German Industrial/electro music and mash it with American arena rock ala Bruce Springsteen and Journey with religious imagery ala Madonna. I actually wish she would have continued the gothic brilliance showcased throughout The Fame Monster, but who knows maybe her fourth album will have more of a cohesive feel and won't feel overproduced and forced. My favorite tracks off the album are the songs that aren't even singles such as the Basement Jaxx-esque Americano, the Madonna-esque (circa American Life) track Bad Kids, Scheiße, the Miss Kittin inspired Government Hooker, Electric Chapel (which is another Madonna-inspired track ala her Confessions era with a bit of Stevie Nicks in her vocal tone) and Heavy Metal Lover. I'm sure when she performs these songs live they'll fit quite snug in an arena setting instead of constricted like they feel in album form. Listen to the unreleased BTW tracks below...
