ADAM LAMBERT HAS A BEEF WITH JAMES DURBIN
While many critics were comparing this season's fourth place AI contestant James Durbin to second place contestant Adam Lambert, it seems the two aren't taking kindly to each other. Durbin, who was regrettably voted off last week, was dissed by Glambatar to The Hollywood Reporter, saying that that he becoming quite annoyed that Durbin was being called the "Adam Lambert of season 10."
“I think he’s got talent and passion 100 percent,” Glambert says, “but I feel like he’s trying way too hard. Also, his niche is so limited with the metal. When he did that “Heavy Metal” song (by Sammy Hagar), James was note-perfect. He was on pitch, which is usually kind of an issue, and I think he sounded really good, but it felt like a copycat. I didn’t feel like I was seeing an original artist yet. And I’m not saying he doesn’t have that in him, but it hasn’t been showing.”
While Glambatar does have some valid points in regards to Durbin trying to hard to be so "original" I have to say he was the only one daring to be different then the rest of the top 10. Far too many played it safe and stayed in their own comfort zones, which helped the boring three contestants we have left.
Here is what Durbin said to MTV this week when he was asked about Glambatar's snarky comment (which you can watch below). “I was nothing (but) nice to that guy,” he said, shrugging it off. “And, you know, he decided to take it to a different level. Whatever.”
He did attempt to put some distance between himself and Lambert, though. “I don’t know what the comparison’s all about,” Durbin said. “He sings pop and electronic, and I sing rock and metal.”
I think Lambert should worry about putting the finishing touches on his sophomore album, and making sure it doesn't sound like some showtuned over-the-top glittered mess and worry about what James Durbin. With the infamous shit he's been doing in the media for attention he should be grateful he's being compared to someone. Now if James takes the influences of Muse, Journey, and some of those classic metal greats he looks up to like Zakk Wylde, and gives it a catchy pop feel, he in my opinion will have a successful record.
