PRODUCER JERRY WONDA TALKS UPDATING CLASSIC SOUND FOR MY LIFE PART 2

Earlier this week I brought you the world premiere of Mary J. Blige's new single Someone To Love Me (Naked), which is the first cut off of her 10th studio album My Life II: The Journey Continues. Producer Jerry Wonda sat down with Rap-Up and went into further details on what we fans can expect from Mary's September release.

“It’s like My Life, but with a 2011 sound to it,” he told Rap-Up.com. “Everything is all lovely with a hard bottom, but very melodic, clean music. You know Mary, she always comes with bangers. That’s why she called this one My Life II.”

For those not in the know, Wonda originally produced the beat for Diddy, who has the same track on the Diddy-Dirty Money album Last Train To Paris but without the assistance of Mary J's Nina Simone-esque vocals and Lil Wayne's 16. After Mary received Diddy's blessing, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul used it for herself.

“I just played the record. Mary was like, ‘Hold up! That’s my record!’ You know those two. They’re like brothers and sisters,” he said. “Puff came through Platinum Sounds—that’s where I’m at—and Mary’s like, ‘I need this record.’ Puff was like, ‘Yo, that’s it! You want it, no problem mama. Let’s go!’”

Jerry even indulged on why Mary decided to call the song "Naked." “The reason she called it ‘Naked’ was because she was like, ‘I’m just going to let it out, whatever’s inside of me,’” continued Wonda, who worked with Swizz Beatz on a few tracks for Mary. “That’s the record, my God! Everybody’s talking about it.”

Jerry has a pretty busy year ahead of him. Besides producing a few tracks for Mary, he's also working on new music with Justin Bieber, Alicia Keys, Melanie Fiona, John Legend, Estelle, Akon and serves as Executive Producer of Musiq Soulchild’s new album MusiqInTheMagiq.
