ELIMINATED IDOL CONTESTANT NABS SOLO ALBUM DEAL
While the world was in shock and JLo protruded the biggest Raspberry Award-nominated crocodile tears of her career when Pia Toscano was eliminated on American Idol, it seems that light at the end of the tunnel has come quicker than expected. According to Us Weekly, the Queens native immediately nabbed a record deal with Interscope Records. it also doesn't hurt that Interscope president Jimmy Iovine can be seen nurturing the contestants every week on Idol.
"Starting [Thursday] night after the show, Interscope told her they wanted her and first thing [Friday] morning Interscope brass started calling every top songwriter and producer in town to get an album together and rush release it," the magazine reported on Saturday.
I thought Pia, who had the biggest upset in Idol's history since Jennifer Hudson's shocking elimination a few seasons back, had one of the strongest voices in the competition (next to my fave Jacob Lusk) but my only issue with her is that she lacked personality and that she stuck too much with the ballads. I often said that even Celine Dion and Mariah Carey move away from the ballads every once in a while and if you are going to be in this business for the long haul, you have to not be afraid to take risks and show versatility. Hell even Adele adds a drum beat to her music. Check out Pia's performance of the song that got her eliminated Ike & Tina Turner's River Deep, Mountain High below...
