ABC CANCELS ALL MY CHILDREN & ONE LIFE TO LIVE

After constant  rumors regarding the matter, early this morning, ABC television announced they are canceling its longrunning daytime soaps All My Children and One Life to Live.

The final episodes of the shows will air in September and January 2012, respectively, ABC said.

A few weeks ago Wendy Williams asked guest Susan Lucci of the rumors, to which the soap diva stated that she received her call sheet for a new set of storylines, so she knew nothing about her show getting the ax.
Now that the cat is out of the bag, Lucci, who has played Erica Kane for 41 seasons, is singing another tune. "It's been a fantastic journey...I'm looking forward to all kinds of new and exciting opportunities."

"The cancellation of AMC and OLTL. Very sad day for me," tweeted Mark Consuelos, who met his wife, Kelly Ripa, on the set of "All My Children" in 1995.
"Sad day:(" Ripa herself tweeted, echoing his sentiment.

AMC and OLTL has launched the careers of some of TV and film's biggest actors, including Judith Light, Laurence Fishburne, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Marcia Cross, Tommy Lee Jones, Amanda Seyfried, Josh Duhamel and the legendary Dixie Carter.
ABC said the two soap operas will be replaced by two new shows “The Chew” and “The Revolution.” “The Chew” will feature a rotating cast of hosts, including chef Mario Batali, restaurateur Michael Symon and nutrition expert Daphne Oz, who is the daughter of Dr. Mehmet Oz and is the author of national bestseller, The Dorm Room Diet. “The Revolution” will feature a “dream team” of lifestyle consultants including fashion guru and Project Runway mentor Tim Gunn, celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak and “American Idol” alum Kimberley Locke.

General Hospital aka The Sopranos part 2 will remain on the air.

Sorry to see these two staples go, but truth be told those tired storylines of baby switches and sleeping with your relative was getting a bit long in the tooth. One Life was at one point groundbreaking with their gay cop storyline, but those same idiots that balked at it are about to lose a show they weren't watching in the first place. In the world of reality TV and daytime self-help talk shows dominating the airwaves, it was inevitable more soaps would be sent to the daytime graveyard.
