SHORT LIST OF ACTORS SENT SCRIPT FOR AKIRA MOVIE

Deadline is reporting that a script for the live adaptation of Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' Akira has been sent out to a few male actors for the lead and none of them are of Asian descent.
Akira is based on anime artist Katsuhiro Otomo's six-volume graphic novel and will be directed by Albert Hughes (The Book of Eli).
Two major roles are currently up for grabs. For the role of Tetsuo, Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield and James McAvoy have been given the new script while Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake and Joaquin Phoenix have received scripts for the role of Kaneda.
I'm disappointed that no Asian actors are being considered for the roles, and how come they are casting 30-year-olds to play teenagers. I shouldn't be surprised that in the white boys club of mainstream movie making Hollyweird that they would get the casting wrong so you can only imagine what the script will be. Many Hollywood adaptations of Japanese anime suck ass, and putting enough gel in your hair to look like Marcel from Top Chef is not a great movie make (See The Last Airbender and Dragonball Evolution to see what I mean). If this movie winds up sucking at least I'll have the original movie to always watch.
I feel since the Wachowski's did an amazing job with The Matrix (which was inspired by Akira), they should direct but what do I know?

Filming is supposed to begin in August.
