L.A. REID TO JOIN X FACTOR
While the rumors are still running wild over whether or not Nicole Scherzinger or Paula Abdul will get the gig on Simon Cowell's American version of X Factor, it has been reported that L.A. Reid will not renew his contract as chairman of Island/Def Jam's chairman and he will be the new judge on the competition series. X Factor kicks off in September and the winner will receive a $5 million dollar contract with Sony Music.
To my Island Def Jam family:
After much consideration, I have decided to leave my position as Chairman of the Island Def Jam Music Group. I have always thrived on growth and the next great challenge, and I look forward with much enthusiasm to what the future holds.
I am extremely proud of our beautiful roster and all we have accomplished in my seven years with IDJ. We continue to have incredible success together with today’s most phenomenal superstars – Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey, Kanye West, Bon Jovi, Jennifer Lopez, Ne-Yo, Rick Ross, The Killers, The-Dream, Chrisette Michele, Jeezy and Ludacris to name a few.
I want to thank all of you for your amazing contributions.
With Warm Regards -
LA
But that's not all. There's word that LA may get a job over at Sony (who will crown the winner with a record deal) and may take Mariah Carey with him. This in my opinion is good news, because before Mariah started going all hood on us when she signed with Def Jam, she put out some of the best songs when she was signed to Sony/Columbia in her Tommy Mattola days. And given that Jennifer Lopez and Rihanna are the new darlings at Island/Def Jam, I think it would be perfect timing to abandon ship and click her Louboutins over to Sony with L.A.
And as much as I find it interesting to have a record exec giving advice like say Jimmy Iovine on American Idol, isn't Simon Cowell a record exec? And with Simon's ego, is there really room for two? Also wouldn't it be hot if Mariah was the new X Factor judge like Xtina on The Voice and JLo on American Idol? Now that would be must see TV.
