JENNIFER LOPEZ OPENS UP ABOUT GAYS IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY; TORN CHOOSING ON THE FLOOR FOLLOW-UP
In a recent interview with the website blabbeando , singer Jennifer Lopez, who has a new album Love? coming out this Spring wanted to reach out to her latino LGBT fans. So when blogger Andrés Duque asked her about her thoughts on openly gay latino artists such as Ricky Martin, former Menudo member Angelo Garcia, Puerto Rican reggaeton artist Lisa M, and Dominican singer Rita Indiana coming out in the less tolerant latino community who are deeply Catholic, the singer gave her thoughts on being out in the latino music industry:
JENNIFER LOPEZ – I just think it’s a reflection of the real world we live in. And it’s OK to be out. I do think it is. I do think it’s acceptable for people to be who they are. I am a huge advocate of that. In that sense, that’s the only way we can truly love ourselves, it’s by accepting who we are and letting everybody know who we are.
So, I’m very proud – you know – I’m friends with Ricky and I’m very proud of him and support him in everything he does. And all these people who have been... who want to step forward and tell the world who they are… I think that’s awesome.
We know JLo goes hard for her gays, so much so that she recently did an interview with singer and internet personality B. Scott where she spilled the tea on her upcoming album, and the difficult task of choosing the follow-up single to the international hit, On The Floor. JLo did reveal recently she plans to drop the Lil Wayne-assisted track I'm Into You, but now she says she's torn between three songs - a dance track with a caribbean vibe, a straight urban track to remind her fans she's a homegirl from the Bronx (whic hwas cute back in the days she recorded with Murder Inc, but unfortunately hip hop is not as big as it was 10 years ago) or another RedOne dance track as the album's second single.
Want my advice - drop a harder dance track as the follow-up. Give the fans what they want. Sorry to say, but your strengths are as a dance diva and pushing the envelope has never been your style. But, if the Carribean track has a Rihanna-esque vibe to it, that would be another great choice. Just not as a second single. I have no idea what the track sounds like, but if it does have a mid-tempo caribbean vibe, it should be released as a third or fourth single. Just get the damn album out already, because if you do plan to release the album in May, you better not drop it around the time Lady Gaga drops Born This Way because you will be in trouble.
