IT'S GAY PANIC ALL OVER AGAIN AS ABC CUTS JOSH BROLIN/JAVIER BARDEM KISS AT THE OSCARS
I thought I was the only one that noticed this. While watching one of the most boring Oscar telecasts in recent memory this past Sunday, I noticed how quickly producers cut away from Javier bardem and Josh Brolin's sweet but brief dance onstage to show an extended shot of Bardem's wife Penelope Cruz looking on.
AfterElton's Michael Jensen wonders why it was censored:
"Viewers saw the two men walk out onto stage where they engaged in an apparently impromptu dance, though viewers only saw a flash of that before the camera jumped to an extended shot of Penelope Cruz...So why the cut away? On one hand, it seems unlikely that ABC would find a kiss between Bardem and Brolin to be something needing to be censored. After all, back in 2006, the Oscar telecast included a Brokeback Mountain spoof featuring Jon Stewart and George Clooney in bed. On the other hand, the cutaway to Cruz seemed awkward and clearly lasted until the two men had stopped dancing. Frankly, it's hard not to wonder if it might not have something to do with the Adam Lambert imbroglio from the American Music Awards."
So far ABC have refused to comment on this issue. You would think ABC would be a bit open minded with the success of gay friendly shows like Modern Family, Brothers and Sisters and Desperate Housewives, but clearly it shows that Republican bigots still run the network. If it were Anne Hathaway in mer tux dancing with Halle Berry, I'm sure they would instigate a labia smackdown on national TV. I'm so sick of the media still playing into this man on man activity as wrong whether it's two men dancing or kissing.
