While I am hoping and praying that Nicki Minaj being courted as a possible judge on the American edition of X Factor is just a rumor, there is word going around the industry that Paula Abdul, Jessica Simpson and Cheryl Cole's names are being tossed around as top contenders for the J.O.B. While Paula will no doubt bring the crazy since her chemistry with Simon is undeniable, although she was a hot mess on that short-lived dance show on CBS. Jessica Simpson is no stranger to reality TV, but I think she's better off being a socialite and rolling around in the coins she made from her shoes and accessories line, because as far as her music goes, no one cares. As for Cheryl, Simon and Will.I.Am are so hellbent on making her an American crossover star, but her music is just plain shit. With competition from shows like the vapidly boring American Idol and the star-studded cast of The Voice ready to take over your TV's in April, Simon really needs to come with it as far as judges go and if Page Six is correct with him courting Nicki Minaj, he's heading in the wrong direction.
First of all, Nicki is a rapper not a real singer so how can she critique and mentor singers if that's not her forte? Also she's only released one record and has yet to pay her dues, like say someone of Mariah Carey status who I think would be a great addition to the show alongside Cowell and L.A. Reid. yes Nicki is a hot commodity right now, but when you release the sophomore album and it does bigger numbers then your debut, then respect will be given where it's due. Until then hell no on Nicki, definitely no to Jessica Simpson, Cheryl needs to focus on putting out a quality album and learn to keep perfect vocal pitch before she feels the need to shell out advice on our shores (which she does on UK X Factor), and as for Paula unless she's bringing the crazy from AI with her on X Factor, then she should get the gig. If not my choices would be Kelly Rowland, Mariah Carey, or Madonna. Who do you guys think?
