OMG I am hyperventilating! I just literally finished watching the MTV world premiere of Britney's Hold It Against Me, and not only is it simply vagenius (visually speaking), but i found myself disappointed with Britney's performance. It opens with a meteor crashing to earth. Then we get a bunch of quick cuts of Britney being dressed by her dancers. Then she's surrounded by a bunch of monitors while she grows amazon size ala Kylie singing Burning Up on the Fever Tour. I don't want to give it all away with a blow by blow description, but my favorite part came about when Britney started fighting herself ala Madonna in her Die Another Day MV as the choreography and quick edits matched the dubstep breakdown. Jonas Akerlund who has directed videos for everyone (such as Madonna's American Life, Prodigy's Smack My Bitch Up, Lady Gaga's Telephone and Rihanna's Who's That Chick) was the right choice to get Britney back on her grind and kudos to Brian Friedman for his sick choreography. Now I'm ready to see Brit Brit perform this live since I would have liked to have seen more choreography from Britney in the vid. To me it felt her heart wasn't in the performance, like she'd rather be home eating cheetos with her kids than shoot a music video. If this is hoe she is on a video set, i can imagine how she was recording Femme Fatale.
So regardless of all the confusing images going on in the video, I am glad to see Britney do something different visually. Let's hop the music lives up to the hype as well. If you missed the MTV world premiere at 9:55, you can watch it over and over again below like I did.
I don't want to sound the alarm, but between Beyonce stealing from Kylie's Fever tour and now Britney, it amazes me how this woman never gets the credit she deserves for setting many trends these other pop stars are following today.
