USHER SERIOUS ABOUT CREATING NEW MOVEMENT CALLED REV POP
A few months back Usher went on the record to claim that he plans to create a new sound in pop culture called Rev Pop. After a weak R&B album that shed light on the happier side of his now-kaput marriage, Usher has had a very successful 2010 with his Raymond V. Raymond and Versus albums. Rather than just take the easy way out and stick to the winning formula that has catapulted him back to superstar status, he took to MTV to explain more about his new movement that he plans to incorporate on his next album.
"I'll give it to you this way: At a later date, I'll tell you more about Rev Pop, but if I were to give you a flash: I've done it before, I did it with 'Yeah!' " he said, "taking a cultural experience, and also worldwide recognition of a feeling, and putting the soul in the middle of it. Not allowing it to shift heavily to R&B genre, or pop. I did it again with 'OMG,' once again putting the soul in the middle of it, which was an electric-pop experience, with the soul.
"It's bringing those elements together to tell a story, that was born here," he said, gesturing toward his heart, "And that's what Rev Pop is. There's more, I mean, I could really elaborate, but that's just what I'm going to tell you right now. 'Rev' is what it's called ... the movement is called Rev."
I think he seems to forget that Yeah was basically shit we heard from Lil Jon but with a R&B twist on it. It also didn't hurt that Jon produced the track. As for OMG I fucking hated that song because it sounded like one of those songs tailor-made for NBA halftime games. This is why I'm worried about Will.I.Am producing songs for Britney's new album. Dated dance music disguised as something new and fresh - if this were 1993. Don't get me wrong Yeah is a good song, but sorry to say Usher doesn't do it for me now as an all around entertainer.
