LADY GAGA TALKS TO BILLBOARD ABOUT BORN THIS WAY
Earlier in the week Lady Gaga's cover of Billboard magazine appeared online with little detail as to what can be expected in the article. Little by little, a few snippets of some Gaga chat has leaked online. You can get a few highlights below.
Lady Gaga on her new album: “It’s quite eclectic. It ranges from ‘Born This Way’ being very light, to the rest of the album becoming quite darker. I, in jest, say that ‘Born This Way’ is the marijuana to the heroins of the album, the ultimate intense intoxication of the record.”
On the message of “Born This Way”: “Harkening back to the early ’90s when Madonna, En Vogue, Whitney Houston and TLC were making very empowering music for women and the gay community…the lyrics and the melodies were very poignant and very gospel and very spiritual. I said, ‘That’s the kind of record I need to make.’
She also talked about securing the 1000th number on the Hot 100 with her single “Born this Way”.
“It is a tremendous honor,” Gaga tells Billboard of the milestone. “To be the 1000th no. 1 on Billboard…I would be silly not to say this is the greatest honor of my career.”
“I am so humbled and so honored and overwhelmed by the reception to ‘Born This Way,’ ” Gaga adds. “[It] has been so life changing for me as an artist, and between Billboard and the international number ones and the radio numbers…I couldn’t be more blessed to have the fans that I have.”
When a 24-year-old talks about the music of the early 90's something I actually grew up with like she actually remembers the era, something tells me she's older than she claims to be. I still don't buy that she's in her early 20's especially when you went to school with Paris and Nicki Hilton, two young ladies who are in their early 30's (Paris turning the lucky 3-0 today)
While BTW is not by any means a great song, it has shattered records for the biggest debut on the Radio Songs chart: “Born this Way” debuted at No. 6 with 78.5 million audience impressions (the largest opening in the airplay chart’s history), beating Janet Jackson’s No.9 debut for “All For You”, which had 70 million impressions and beating Britney Spears record for the highest digital opening-week sales for a female artist.
