JENNIFER LOPEZ PLANNING FIRST WORLD TOUR; FINDS CONFIDENCE AS A VOCALIST
As we were so eloquently reminded during the opening credits of American Idol's 10th season, Jennifer Lopez has sold over 55 million albums since bursting on the music scene in the late 90's. Well the latin bombshell made the promotional rounds in New York City yesterday, where she announced on HOT 97 that she will go on her first world tour to promote her latest album, Love? JLo was criticized in the past for always releasing albums but never touring, prompting those big rumors that she can't sing live. That's never stopped Britney Spears.
She did tour for a bit with her husband Marc Anthony two years ago when she was pregnant with the twins, but this will be her first proper tour where she stands on her own two feet as a pop artist. It's nice to see that after over a decade of putting out music that JLo finally wants to take her role as a pop star seriously. JLo talked a bit to Angie Martinez about her vocal ability, which in the past she was often criticized about as not having the strongest vocal ability: “I’m very proud of who I am as a vocalist from where I started,” she told “The voice was always there, I was just so insecure about it in the beginning.”
She also credits her husband Marc for building up her confidence as a singer: “Marc [Anthony] helped me so much because he was the one who was like, ‘You have a beautiful voice,’” she explained. “I think people are gonna be surprised with some of the vocals on this album.”
Even Anthony, a seasoned vocalist, was impressed by his wife’s pipes. “There’s even songs on this album that when he heard the demo, he was like, ‘You’re gonna sing that?’ When he heard my version, he was like, ‘Wow.’ Tears in his eyes. ‘I’m so proud of you.’” Well if it's not swathed in auto tune and pro-tools remains to be seen. While burning up the charts with her latest single On The Floor, not only will JLo have some club ready tracks on the album, she also says she hasn't abandoned her hip hop roots: “I always kind of play in both worlds because that’s how we grew up, so that’s always in my music,” she said. “There’s other very urbanny-type tracks on it. Don’t worry. Booty shakers, mid-tempos, feel-good [records].”
I always feel a bit weird when mainstream pop acts always want to tailor make songs for a specific audience instead of stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new, but I understand JLo is not that kind of artist. She's all about the business. As long as the songs are hot I'll definitely support. Love?, which features production by RedOne, The Dream and Tricky Stewart so far does not have a release date, but the singer/actress/Idol judge says she will tour right after her stint with Idol is done.
I've always believed that Jenny has had it in her to be the best artist she can be, but she never brought it 1000%. It definitely came across in her music, because she was thinking like a businesswoman with a hundred hands in a hundred different pies. I really hope she brings the confidence needed to succeed in the music industry, because not only can she dance her ass off, but she still looks youthful and beautiful to compete with her younger counterparts. She has to be the one to fully believe in herself. it's great that she has someone like Marc in her corner to cheer her on, even if she feels she's not the best she can be. I only go hard on JLo because I felt she wasn't bringing her A game. We shall see if she can put action to words when the album finally drops.
