DJ WHITE SHADOW TALKS ABOUT WORKING ON LADY GAGA'S NEW ALBUM
The music production of RedOne may have dominated majority of Lady Gaga's last two Fame albums, but the pop singer wisely brought in some new blood to collaborate with on her third album, Born This Way. One of those producers, DJ White Shadow spoke to Billboard about their collaboration:
Billboard: How did you come to work with Lady Gaga on "Born This Way"?
DJ White Shadow: Gaga was listening to my mixtapes after someone she knew heard me DJ in a club in L.A. One day Gaga e-mailed me and asked me if I made my own beats. I said yes, sent her some, and she hit me back, this time on the phone, asking if I wanted to work with her on some stuff. I said okay.
When and where did you record the song "Born This Way"? How would you describe the sound of it?
She made it. She came up with the idea, she wrote it. She is a genius. We recorded it around the world, on the road, in whatever was available. It sounds like it reads, but not like you think until you hear it.
Did you work on any other album tracks?
Yes. I have been working on this record for well over a year. It has been awesome. Sonically it is much more complex. It's beautiful. Like a golden spaceship touching down on a rainbow runway in a field of fresh mint.
What are you working on now?
Finishing this record. Making remixes. Listening to yacht rock. The usual.
DJ White Shadow isn't the only one singing the album's praises. Cherrytree labelmates Semi Precious Weapons, who have opened for Lady Gaga on tour sang the album's praises, while #1 Monster anus sucker Perez Hilton apilled the tea to MTV about Gaga's single and album: "We've been holding a big secret from you all, which is we've heard the whole album. We've been there every step of the way and ... This album is going to change culture! When we can say more, we will! For now ... Don't be a drag, just be a queen!!!"
Keep in mind that these accolades are coming from her good friends, so their praises coming off a bit bias is an understatement. Perez elaborated further on the single, which takes an unapologetic, in-you-face approach to gay and racial equality: "And you know what? It is a very gay song — unapologetically, gay-in-your-face gay — but it's also a universal song that can relate to everyone," Hilton explained. "To all of us outsiders, to all of us freaks, to all of us who feel different. And the music is undeniable. It sounds like a smash. It is a smash. It is one of the best songs of Gaga's career."
All I will say is that in less than ten days Born This Way makes it's debut online, on radio, and at the Grammy's, so I will make up my own damn mind whether or not the song is hot.
Born This Way the single drops on February 13, while Born This Way the album drops on May 23.
