X MEN DIRECTOR HELMS FOSSE BIOPIC
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Bryan Singer, director of The Usual Suspects and the first two X Men movies will be direct a Bob Fosse biopic for HBO. For thos not familiar Fosse was an actor, dancer, musical theater choreographer, director, screenwriter, film editor and film director. He won an unprecedented eight Tony Awards for choreography, as well as one for direction. He was nominated for an Academy Award four times, winning for his direction of Cabaret. He was closely identified with his third wife, Broadway dancing star Gwen Verdon. Everyone from Vanessa Williams to Beyonce to Madonna were influenced by his work. His credits include: The Pajama Game, Damn Yankees (my favorite), Pippin, Cabaret, Sweet Charity, and many more. The biopic is being produced by Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, who's credits include film versions of the musicals Hairspray, Chicago, and the forthcoming remake of Footloose. They've also produced Promises, Promises and the upcoming How To Succeed... with Daniel Radcliffe for Broadway.
I'm already excited to see HBO's remake of Mildred Pierce and now I'm double excited about this bit of news. I wonder what actor with a dance background will they get to play the iconic Fosse?
