Talk about keeping it in the family! Variety is reporting that Actor/producer/king of ignoring child labor laws Will Smith is in talks to remake one (of many) of my all-time favorite movie musicals Annie. The 1982 film starred Carol Burnett, Albert Finney, Tim Curry, Bernadette Peters and Aileen Quinn as the title character. it was also remade into a TV movie for Disney in 1999. But that not the roll your eyes part. Take a wild guess who he wants to play the title character? Go on...I'll give you a minute to think reeeeeeeal hard.
Reports are circulating that hip-hip mogul Jay-Z, who worked with Will's daughter Willow Smith on her hit single, 'Whip My Hair,' and has the tyke signed to his Roc Nation imprint, is in talks to work on the music for the film. It has yet to be known if original music will be added to the already classic hits like Hard Knock Life (which Jay sampled on one of his past hits), You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile, and Tomorrow.
I understand Hollywood is on this incestuous remake kick, and they hit a homerun with The Karate Kid (which he cast his son Jaden and went on to gross $300 million worldwide), but must you remake every movie and put your annoying ass kids in it? Sorry, but no one can do Ms. Hannigan better than Burnett - unless you cast Vanessa Williams in the role. What do you guys think of this bit of casting should it (most likely) happen?
