WILL, JADA & JAY Z JOIN FORCES TO BRING ANNIE TO THE BIG SCREEN
After joining forces to produce the now defunct Broadway show Fela!, word on the street is that Jay Z, Will & Jada Pinkett Smith (along with Overbrook partners James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz), will reunite once again to develop and produce future movie projects, beginning with the 1982 classic Annie which will star Willow Smith.
“The Overbrook Entertainment family and I have a unified vision. We’ve already produced a Tony Award-winning play and we’re developing a true superstar in Willow,” said Jay-Z in a statement. “This venture into film development and production is a perfect next step with teams that are accomplished, creative, and innovative.”
Willow, who's currently whipping her hair all over the Billboard charts just shot her second music video 21st Century Girl this past weekend and has a debut album coming out this spring. As for rumors regarding Hov overseeing the musical aspects of the film, that is unclear. I wonder if Beytonce does sign on to star in A Star is Born will Jay be behind the production of this film or will it be all on director Clint Eastwood?
I'm over remaking everything, but I have to say I love the fact that Jay Z and the Pinket-Smiths are taking over Hollywood, because we definitely need another black voice out there besides Tyler Perry and his tired ass negro movies.
