It looks like we may never get to see that Wonder Woman reboot that's currently in the works. A few months back it was announced that Wonder Woman was about to get the TV treatment once more, with a version written and developed by David E. Kelly (The Practice, Ally McBeal). Since Kelly's mostly known for his writing being based in the world of attorneys, many began to worry that he wouldn't be able to bring the Amazonian warrior to the small screen the same way the CW managed to keep Smallville on successfully for ten years.
Well it looks like the gamble didn't pay off, because according to Entetainment Weekly, all the networks have passed on Kelly's draft. No specific reason was given as to why they balked, but I'm hearing the budget played a part in the decision. Warner Bros. TV was actively shopping a script from David E. Kelley that updated the period tale about an Amazon princess who battled Nazis and other bad guys during World War II. Reporter James Hibberd said the Wonder Woman team won't give up on the project, even though it's "not moving forward at this time." Are you as confused as I am about that statement?
if they're worried about budget, why not take it to HBO? If they can spend damn near $70 million on Boardwalk Empire, why not put that same amount of money into WW? What's the budget they spend on Smallville over at the CW? I just don't get why networks and studios are having such a problem when it comes to developing female superheroes, but budgets know no bounds when it comes to male or ensemble shows like Heroes and The Cape. Maybe a WW movie is better off.
