JESSIE J TALKS WRITING FOR NEW BRITNEY ALBUM
Last week I talked a bit about UK singer/songwriter Jessie J possibly coming on board to write a hit song for Britney's highly-anticipated seventh album. Now that the official news has been confirmed, here's what the singer told RapUp.com via phone from her native London about working with Brit Brit's people:
“I am going in the studio tomorrow to try and write a song for Britney. I was sent a backing track for her album and they specifically asked me to write on it, so I’m going to go in the studio on my night off.”
Jessie also stated that people will be presently surprised at how good the song is, and it's not being produced by go-to hitmaker Dr. Luke, who along with Max Martin is executive producing the album. Jessie is also getting ready to promote her debut album excitedly opened up more about working with the pop tart and what the track will sound like. “I’m hoping that I’ll be able to crack it,” she says. “It’s a very U.K. kinda sound, which is why I think they want me to write it. I’m gonna put a little Jessie J spin on it and get Britney singing about grabbing her crotch. You never know.”
She also gave a bit of insight on her method for writing for other artists. “I kinda just go in and don’t put pressure on myself. I go in and play the guitar or the piano. I make sure I can adapt to different people’s situations ’cause obviously not every producer works the same way,” she shares. “I think what makes a good song is delivery, the drama of it. I’ve written a fun, happy, pop song like [Miley Cyrus'] ‘Party in the U.S.A.’ or an emotional, more drawn song like ‘I Need This’ for Chris Brown, so I kinda just go with the flow and if it happens it happens.”
Jessie is truly talented and I dig her style as a writer. I'm really looking forward to what she comes up with for the new Britney album. Just get it together and give the fans some music. Jessie J's debut, Who You Are will be available in the U.K. on March 22 featuring the singles “Do It Like a Dude” and the B.o.B-assisted “Price Tag.”
