IS BRITNEY'S NEW SINGLE A RIP OFF OF SOMEONE ELSE'S SONG?

Britney's camp, Jive, mainstream radio and iTunes may be enjoying the instant success of her new single "Hold It Against Me" (which is sitting pretty at #1 on iTunes), but they might want to hold off a bit on popping any more champagne bottles. I said from the beginning that usically the track doesn't give us anything we haven't heard before, since it sounds like dated late nineties techno. But that's not where the thievery accusations lie. Country duo The Bellamy Brothers told Entertainment Weekly that the first time they heard the pop tart's new single, it reminded them of their 1979 No. 1 country hit, the Bellamy Brothers’ 1979 No. 1 country hit, "If I Said You Have a Beautiful Body Would You Hold it Against Me." David Bellamy, who wrote the song  says he hasn't heard from Britney's people and is still deciding if he will take legal action.

Says David: Howard and I have no personal beef with Britney. She’s a talented gal. But professionally, well, in all honesty, we feel completely ripped off. Where’s the originality?

Since Britney puts most of her coin into hiring the best producers and writers to give her the biggest hits, maybe she doesn't know that this was taken from someone else's song. On the other hand she is country, and we don't really know how far her taste in music reaches. Hopefully this will be resolved soon.
