The powers that be over at Bravo are squashing rumors that they are not in the process of creating a gay Housewives series or something like The A List, as it was reported last month.
From AfterElton:
Says Bravo Media president Frances Berwick, "No, we’re not doing a version of that [a gayHousewives]. It would not be wildly outside of our milieu to do something that focused specifically on gay characters. But as to doing Real Gay Housewives, we’re not going there. Or something like The A-list, although I never saw a full episode, we wouldn’t do that."
Says Lauren Zalanick, President of NBC Universal Women and Lifestyle Entertainment Networks, who was asked about reports that Andy Cohen had a "gay"Housewives show in the works, "He has never talked about a gay male version of the Housewives. I’ve never heard him say that, and I don’t know why he would....[The online report is] made up, I’m telling you. There’s absolutely nothing in development and never has been. I will say we do have casting out there around a group of gay guys. In terms of Andy casting it, we have a team. We have a couple [of different shows]. I would say, really early days, we’re in development, but we’re also developing a ton of other things."
I think Bravo is gay enough without adding an entire series with gay characters on it, although it would be nice if LOGO created some quality gay shows outside of the three they currently have on their network. I think we could do without shows that were successful on other networks, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Be Good Johnny Weir. bravo has always been the network with a large amount of gay reality stars with their own shows, and in my opinion are doing a much better job at having quality gays on TV.
