Hollywood has been on remake overload for quite a while, and yesterday I brought you the news that Annie was going to receive the remake treatment from Will Smith. Well looks like another musical is about to get a makeover. Rumors are circulating that Clint Eastwood is in talks to direct a remake of A Star Is Born starring none other than Beyonce. The original film came out in 1976 and starred Barbra Streisand as a woman who's career began to take off while her lovers began to cool down. Normally I would be up in arms about yet another remake and the lack of original ideas getting greenlit in Hollyweird, but in these times in which we live this is the perfect film to get a makeover. One of the biggest hot topics in American culture is that women are becoming alot more successful in their respective careers, and how men who have been reared since birth to be the bread winners of the family often feel unwanted and insecure. We often hear of actresses or female singers who make more money than their husbands have a hard time remaining married. Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe and Madonna and Guy Ritchie come to mind.
My only concern is, if she does take the role how far can Beyonce stretch as an actor, because from all the movies she's done - which consisted of her always playing a singer she's very limited as an actor. If they decide to make her relationship interracial, I hope they really take it there unlike the elephant in the room they tried to ignore in that horrible ass Z-grade Fatal Attraction neverbe called Obsessed. If they would have played it up a bit like Michael Douglas and Glenn Close in FA, it would have been more believable. Personally I would prefer to see Jennifer Hudson in the Barbra Sreisand role, but what do I know?
