JENNIFER LOPEZ WORKING WITH REDONE ON NEW ALBUM

On the last episode of my radio show "Whores of Avalon," I talked about Jennifer Lopez and how she doesn't want contestants trying to win her over by singing her songs during theit auditions. I even said that Def Jam will try to market her new music around working on American Idol as a way to spark fan interest. Since then she's had to deal with the thorn in her ginormous ass that is her first ex-husband Ojani Noa and his latest scheme to get famous by rising JLo's coattail. Well amidst the drama on the personal front there's at least some good news coming out of all of this regarding her future in music.

Since parting ways with Epic earlier this year and quickly signing with Def Jam, JLo has been pretty busy trying to get a good hit on the charts. Speaking of "Good Hit," the single was supposed to come out and was rumored to be the first official track off of her long-delayed seventh album "Love?" but I haven't heard what's to come of the song. Now it's been reported that Jen's first single will drop around January or February (right around the time her stint judging on Idol is to kick off). Since I've been saying for the longest that JLo needs to stop trying to be a serious Celine Dion-esque singer and focus on her strengths (which is to make cheesy, catchy pop songs that are all about style and no substance), she's done something smart for once and has worked with the very busy RedOne on eight new songs. I'm sure they won't have the depth of a Lady Gaga tune, but I'm sure a guilty pleasure no less.

Although the movie reles may have slowed down a bit so that Jen can focus on her new album and Idol, don't think she'll be slacking off as a businesswoman. She just signed on to be the new global brand ambassador of L’Oreal Paris hair products, will launch another clothing line this time at Kohls with hubby Mark "Skeletor" Anthony, and will now be the spokesbitch for the Boys & Girls Club of America.
Expect 2011 to be the year of La Lopez.

P.S. As curious as I am to seehow Jen does on Idol, I think I'm more curious to watch Paula Abdul's new dance show on CBS.
