According to reports, actor Jeremy Renner may “take over” the Mission: Impossible franchise from Tom Cruise.
Renner, who is co-starring with Cruise in the currently shooting the fourth sequel titled Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, spoke to MTV News, “It’s a franchise to potentially take over. I can’t predict what the future holds and what they want, but that’s certainly the idea.”
Renner was asked if Ghost Protocol’s script features a scene where Cruise’s Ethan Hunt has his character taking over the franchise, to which Renner answered, “I can’t really go into the details of the script, because that’s still evolving.”
“It’s Tom’s baby. He’s the engine behind the thing,” continued Renner.
He added, “What happens after that, we’ll see.”
As you may know Renner, who also did a phenomenal job in Ben Affleck's film The Town was nominated for an Oscar this year for his performance in The Hurt Locker and will star as Hawkeye in the upcoming Avengers film which is set to start shooting this spring.
Mission Impossible — Ghost Protocol, is scheduled to blast into theaters in December 2011. Brad Bird is directing.
I like Jeremy Renner and think he would be great if he had an action franchise of his own. Kind of like alternating actors in the Bond films. As long as he continues to bring that believable intensity he brings in all his films, and they can get someone to write a good script, I'll be there for every Mission Impossible opening.
