I was watching my new favorite show on LOGO called 1 Girl, 5 Gays and the question was asked to the panel if there would ever be a gay rapper accepted in hip hop world. While we have unapologetic openly gay rappers out there such as Deadlee and Cazwell making moves without mainstream support, the panel quickly answered that they don't believe gay rappers will be accepted in mainstream hip hop culture, especially since 80% of the well known rappers do dabble on our team (but are closeted). Nicki Minaj was recently asked the same question at the AMA's and here is what she said about an openly gay rapper.
“Of course, of course!” Nicki said at the AMA’s. The rapper dishes out rhymes about kissing “bad bitches” while also giving fellas love, and she feels it is high time for some changes in the rap community.
“I think we just have to be open-minded. You know, we have to do what we do, and not worry about what they accept.”
I just wish the male rappers would be open minded and not be ignorant towards gay rappers, especially when some of them I know for a fact have their boys backstage to service them orally and anally.I'm sure that day will come, but first there has to be a DIY hip hop version of Lady Gaga who has the skills of someone like Eminem and the stage creativity of Kanye/Missy Elliott to make such noice that he/she can't be ignored.
