BLAKE McGRATH WANTS YOU TO COME INSIDE HIS PENTHOUSE; SET TO CONQUER AMERICA
Blake's debut album is burning up the charts in his native Canada, but don't think he's trying to limit his reach domestically. Blake wants to bring his brand of sexy, sassy homoerotic electro-pop to the U.S., and he's recruited legendary choreographer/So You Think You Can Dance judge Mia Michaels as his creative and artistic director.
“We want to shake the world, you know — do what Laurie Ann [Gibson] has done for Gaga. We just want to do something completely different, especially on the male side.”
“There’s really no male artist doing it and it’s something outside of the box that’s still in your face but still beautiful and creative and not tacky. Adam Lambert does it but it’s cheesy and it’s just theatre and it’s wrong.”
Some may feel this is Blake going on the attack (or being cunty - which is how we fierce queens can be when we spill the tea), but I feel he's 1000% right. There aren't any male singers out there who are confidently and unapologetically bringing the theatrics, and I can totally see Blake taking on that challenge. If Akon can get Jeffree Star a record deal and talk about how he's the male Lady Gaga, there's room for Blake as well. I am a huge fan of Mia's Emmy-award winning choreography (although I could easily see Blake working with Wade Robson - hell, I'll save him for when I want to work with Wade) and personally I think her choreo is much better than Laurie Ann's monster hand moves. With so much gay bullying and homophobia dominating the American media, I think the gay kids of the future need someone of their sex to look up to besides some tranny clown in an outfit made of meat popsicles.
