Ameriie goes back to her roots (meaning hair color) and takes it to the international dance floor as a snippet of her new single "Outside Your Body" premieres online. The track, which is taken from her forthcoming fifth album Cymatika Vol. 1. was penned by Ameriie and produced by Andre Harris, Kasey Phillips, and Nikholai Greene. Since R&B is basically dead in America, Ameriie takes it glabal by incorporating not only dance beats on the album, but even sings in her native Korean tongue. Here's what Ameriie told Rap Up about what she wanted to bring creatively to the album:
“When writing this album, I really wanted to talk about what affects us on a spiritual level. Not a religious level, but on the level pertaining to who we are, who we really are as spiritual beings. I wrote about the intimidation we feel from different outside sources, including society in general, that cause us to want to hide who we are, change who we are, and suppress ourselves in a sense. I wrote about self-suppression as a self-defense type of reaction, self-defense from other people’s forceful ideas of who and how we should be."
Ameriie continued, “That’s what Cymatika as a project is really about. It’s about existing in this world and recognizing the power we all have naturally—truly realizing it. ‘Outside Your Body’ is about the recognition that we are eternal beings, that these physical bodies are not who we are, and how we should remember and celebrate our unlimited potential. We have no limits.”
In the harsh times in which we live, we need more people to encourage kids and adults to stop suppressing their true selves, and embrace who they really are without fearing ridicule. I'm sure everyone will start calling her a copycat by jumping on the dance bandwagon, but until I hear the full song, I'm not giving my full opinion. All these mainstream artists aren't even writing their own songs, and they're just going in the studio to shit out product. Ameriie took her time making this record, so I know the on-the-surface comparisons will start. I always say it's not about who does it first it's who does it best.
