THE HULK IS HEADING TO TELEVISION

With Smallville ending it's 10 season run in May 2011, and No Ordinary Family currently on ABC, there seems to be more of a surge in superhero-themed television shows. A few weeks ago it was announced that David E. Kelly (Ally McBeal) was developing a live action Wonder Woman TV series. Now comes word that Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb (Smallville) is in talks to develop The Incredible Hulk for TV. The last time the Hulk graced television screens was back in 1978-82 with Bill Bixby as Bruce Banner and Lou Ferrigno as the Hulk. Eric Bana and Edward Norton played him in the last two Hulk films, and Mark Ruffalo will star as David/Hulk in the Avengers movie that will start shooting in Spring 2011. So far no one has been hired to write a draft, and it's too early to say who they would hire to play the title role. I think if WWE's John Cena took some acting lessons he's be the perfect Hulk. He's already got the body for it. What I'm hoping the show will focus on is him dealing with his emotions after he becomes the Hulk. We do not need a reboot of Bruce Banner as a child or something in that order where it takes him ten seasons to become the green monster.

What I really think should happen is Marvel take some of them billions they've made and launch a cable channel. Comic book movies, TV shows, and cartoons featuring some of their most beloved and lesser known characters - I'd be there in a New York minute. Since Cloak & Dagger is being developed into a TV show, why not create a series based on the Daredevil comics? Sure the movie was terrible, but I think with the current crop of lawyer, and CSI shows on TV, why not develop Daredevil with a otherworldly twist? Also we need some black superheroes on TV, so why not give Blade another reboot (with a better casting choice besides Sticky Fingaz) and Luke Cage with Idris Elba? I love watching Idris on TV. I'd also like to see The Punisher on TV following True Blood on Sunday nights.
