Some good news for my fellow fashionistas. Estee Lauder inc. is FINALLY decided to use a woman of color as their spokesperson. According to a very reliable source, Joan Smalls, a model of Puerto-Rican and Black descent has been hired to be the spokesperson for their skin care, make up, fragrance and hair care line. Here's a bit of background of Ms. Smalls for those not in the know. She was Born in Puerto Rico , and has been with Elite model Management since 2007. In June she was personally selected by Andre Leon Talley as Vogue’s rising star. She has worked the runway for Anna Sui, Gucci, Burberry, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier, Christian Dior and Valentino’s shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. She's also given body and face for legendary pgotographers such as David Sims, Steven Meisel, Mario Testino, and Patrick Demarchelier. Lauder is stepping even further outside the box by diversifying their image, not only hiring Joan Smalls, but for the first time ever, they’ve signed a European model from France, Constance Jablonski and an Asian model Liu Wen, who also made history back in 2009 as Victoria Secret's first ever Asian model. All I have to say that this has been a long time coming, and it's great to see that a company as huge as Estee Lauder is recognizing that the buying public goes beyond their white consumers, and that if they marketed their products to a wider audience, they could keep their profits up.
