According to The Hollywood Reporter, Colin Farrell is in the running to take on the Arnold Schwarzenegger role in the hit 1990 film, Total Recall which was based on the Phillip K.Dick short story. "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale." There's also word that Tom Hardy (who also will have a role in the upcoming Batman sequel), Michael Fassbender, and Jeremy Renner are up for the role.
No one has signed their name in blood as of yet, but word is the film will start shooting in late March and will be directed by Len Wiseman (which explains why he will not be shooting Underworld 4) and Neal Moritz and his Original Film banner producing. Total Recall followed a man named Douglas Quaid who was haunted by a recurring dream of journeying to Mars who buys a literal dream vacation from a company called Rekall Inc., which sells implanted memories. The man comes to believe he is a secret agent and ends up on a Martian colony, where he fights to overthrow a despotic ruler controlling the production of air.
Farrell is set to star alongside Eric Bana in Sheldon Turner's crime drama By Virtue Fall, which will shoot in January. Tom Hardy is set to star in the third Batman film, which will start shooting next spring and summer, around the same time Recall starts. He's also shooting This Means War right now with Reece Witherspoon and will star in Fury Road, which is the fourth installment in the Mad Max series.
Jeremy Renner is currently shooting Mission: Impossible 4 in Prague with Tom Cruise and will star as Hawkeye in the highly anticipated Avangers movie, which starts shooting this spring. As for Fassbender, he's shooting X Men: First Class in England, and is also set to star in The Hobbit which just got the green light. I personally think since Colin is trying to clean up his bad boy image, it would be perfect for him to take the Total Recall role. He just wrapped playing the villain in the Fright Night remake and will star in Horrible Bosses with Jennifer Aniston. I just hope Len includes the alien prostitute with the three tits in his version.
