One of my fovorite PS3 videogames "Uncharted" has been in development for it's own movie for quite a while, and I have to say it's shaping up to be a good one. For those who aren't familiar with the Uncharted series, it's basically an action-adventure that features treasure hunter Nathan Drake (who's like a cross between Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider's Lara Croft) who not only can kick ass, but he's got a sarcastic wit to boot.
The Hollywood Reporter announced that David O. Russell ("Three Kings," "Flirting With Disaster") will both write and direct the adaptation for Columbia Pictures. So far no one has been confirmed to play the title role, but fanboys are hoping that Castle & Firefly star Nathan Fillion gets the role. Not only does he look exactly like the popular videogam character, but he can also do action and comedy very convincingly. Here's what Fillion tweeted to his followers about the idea of him playing Nathan Drake:
"If ever there was a Twitter campaign, let this be it," Fillion tweeted to his half-million followers, linking to a news story about the Uncharted movie news.
The film is currently working with the title "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune," but there's no word on how close to the vest the script will follow the events of the first game. I'm just hoping that with all the high octane precarious leaps, frantic shootouts, and smart-ass one-liners, we get some depth to the characters and story - something that was missing from the first two Tomb Raider films. There have been rumors regarding Hugh Jackman being considered, but personally, i feel since Nathan Drake is in his late twenties, and Jackman is in his mid 40's, it's not going to work. It also makes me look at the current crop of young actors in Hollywood and wonder where are the future action stars of tomorrow who actually have a personality?
I am 1000% behind the casting of Nathan. If I could create a Facebook page ala Betty White to get him elected for this role, I would most certainly do it. I have been following Fillion's career ever sence he played Joey Buchanan on One Life To Live way back in the day, and I have followed him ever since - especially when he played the main villain on the final season of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and his short but sweet stint as a Han Solo-like spaceship captain in the short-lived sci-fi series 'Firefly' and the movie 'Serenity."
Who do you think would make the best Nathan Drake?
