As we witnessed the final moments of Resident Evil: Afterlife, it was no secret that director Paul W.S. Anderson was hoping and praying that the film would make anough money so that he continue with the story which will focus on Project: Alice (not going to reveal the next movie's villain for those who haven't seen it yet). Well since Resident Evil: Afterlife opened to a whopping gross of $73.2 million (it's biggest three-day opening ever), it's no surprise that Screen Gems would want to continue the franchise. Vulture caught up with star Milla Jovovich this weekend who said that's exactly the plan.
"This new 'Resident Evil' is the first one to ever open at No. 1 worldwide. It's the biggest movie in the franchise," she said. "So we're definitely going to make another one."
Jovovich added that director Paul W.S. Anderson, her husband, already has some ideas for the fifth installment and they are looking for ideas from the fans as well this time.
"We've been talking to a lot of fans on Twitter and stuff, so it's probably going to be one of the first movies where we really talk to fans to see what they want, and what characters they want to see. It's going to be a more interactive process."
So for all those fans out there who have been bitching since the first movie that they want the series to become more faithful to the games, now's your chance to voice your opinion. I'm hoping they can come up with more clever action pieces, do not waste Jill Valentine in the next installment, and please give Chris Redfield (Wentworth Miller) alot more to do in the next installment, and get Leon Kennedy in the film. Oh, and I would like a stronger storyline between characters instead of being a non-stop action film with little character development. It can be done. Maybe what Paul needs to do is watch The Walking Dead when it comes on A&E in October so that he can learn how to write and develop characters.
