The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that actor Michael Nyqvist will play one of the lead villains in Mission: Impossible 4.
Nyqvist's resume includes starring in all three Swedish adaptations of Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest) as reporter Mikael Blomkvist.
So far Tom Cruise (Ethan Hunt), Ving Rhames (Luther Stickell), and Simon Pegg (Benji Dunn) are the familiar faces returning to the sequel, while fresh meat to the franchise Jeremy Renner (The Town), Paula Patton (Precious), and Vladimir Mashkov are on board to kick ass and take names. It would have been nice to get Maggie Q and Laurence Fishburne back in the franchise (which is currently filming), but they're hard at work on their shows "Nikita" and "CSI," respectively. It's great that since JJ Abrams is on board as producer, they are continuing to follow the formula of allowing a character actor to play the villain, because oftentimes than not they are more convincing at playing a bad guy than someone who is an A list star. Phillip Seymour Hoffman was perfect in M:I3.
Mission: Impossible is expected to blast it's way into theaters on December 16, 2011.
