Last week I reported that James Cameron was developing a TV version of his 1994 hit True Lies. Well it looks like they've already found a network to call home. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that ABC has snagged the rights to the series, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Arnold, Bill Paxton, Tia Carrere, Art Malik and Eliza Dushku.
Lightstorm Entertainment and 20th Century Fox TV are producing with Rene Echevarria ("The 4400") as writer/showrunner and co-executive producer. Cameron will wisely produce the series instead of having a hand in writing, which has never been his strong suit.
For those who remember the film was about Harry Tasker (Arnold Schwarzenegger), an everyday man leading a double life as a top-level spy. When he learns that his unknowing wife (Jamie Lee Curtis) is unsatisfied with the banality of their life together and, as a result, is planning on having an affair, Tasker accidentally pulls her into his secret battle against Middle Eastern terrorists. Since Alex O' Loughlin is on the hit series Hawaii 5-0, I was thinking Lost's Josh Holloway would be a perfect choice to play the Schwarzenegger role. Or better yet, if ABC is ballsy enough to go against the grain, how about actor Idris Elba (with his native English accent) as Harry and Lucy Liu in the Jamie Lee Curtis role? Undercovers shouldn't be the only show to have a black couple in the lead.
