VIDEO: KATHY GRIFFIN FIGHTS FOR GAY RIGHTS AT DADT RALLY
Here is Kathy Griffin's appearance at yesterday's Human Rights Campaign rally (via Metro Weekly) to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell". Lt. Dan Choi comes in at about 5:00 into Part 2 (check out his speech in the third vid). Lt. Dan Choi and Cpt. Jim Pietrangelo were also arrested later that day after handcuffing themselves to a White House fence. They have since pleaded 'not guilty' and have opted for a trial over a fine of $100. A trial hearing is scheduled for April 26. I'm sure this will also be featured on her My Life on the D-List (the rally, not Lt. Dan Choi's drama)which I'm sure she is still currently taping. What irritates me is when I go on the gay blogs such as Towleroad and I read the nasty comments about how Kathy is exploiting gays for her TV show and for profit. Kathy has always been an advocate for gay rights, and she uses her reality show as a platform to show what we've known all along. That gays deserve equality as much as the next person.
Let's face it-those people who live in Shitsville, Arkansas and Cupcake Idaho only get their source of information from television. I think alot of times people forget that there is another world outside of New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. No matter what you do, say, or suppress, there are always going to be people out there who are going to hate you for who you are. Some wil lcontinue to believe what they want and continue to hate, but at least Kathy is out there brig awareness to an issue that shouldn't be one on the first place. So I ask those same people out there who spit their vitriol over the fact that Kathy is bringing awareness to something that affects a majority of the fans who support her-what the hell are you doing to fight for your rights besides sitting behind your computer and bitching about how the world is full of shit?
