It it safe for me to say it's about damn time we got some diversity in television. With Hawaiian born actress Maggie Q. in talks to play an assassin only played by white women, in this post-Obama era we're finally seeing some non-white actors getting cast in major television roles. Roselyn Sanchez (Rush Hour 2, Without a Trace) has signed on as the lead in the new series, "Cutthroat." The Weeds-esque series is a one-hour dramedy centering on Nina Cabrera (Sanchez), an upscale Beverly Hills widow and soccer mom who runs an international drug cartel. The Cabrera role was envisioned and written with a Latina in mind by creators Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters.

Another 20th TV pilot, CBS' CIA drama "Chaos," directed and executive produced by Brett Ratner, whose lead was conceived as a Latino man and recently cast with Freddy Rodriguez (Six Feet Under, Planet Terror).
I also talked about another action series a couple of months back, the J.J. Abrams' NBC action pilot "Undercovers"; starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Boris Kodjoe as married spies, Forest Whitaker, who leads CBS' "Criminal Minds" spinoff; and Laz Alonso (Southland, This Christmas) in Fox's action drama "Breakout Kings," directed and executive produced by Gavin Hood (X Men Origins: Wolverine). Let's just hope these shows are good and they last beyond a first season. It's about time television mimic the diverse multicultural world in which we live.
Now how long before Jennifer Lopez, who's movie career is slipping faster than her singing career gravitates to television?
