The CW network seems to be on a roll with their remakes of hit TV shows. First they revived the hit nineties shows 90210 and Melrose Place (the latter in danger of cancellation), and now they're looking to revive La Femme Nikita. Nikita was a movie in the 90's directed by Luc Besson and starred French actress Anne Parillaud as a junkie who is recruited by a secret organization to become an assassin. The film was then remade with Bridget Fonda in 'Point of no Return' as well as a hit series for USA that starred Peta Wilson for five seasons.
The reboot will be called 'Nikita' with half-Vietnamese, half-Caucasian Hong Kong action star Maggie Quigley aka Maggie Q. in talks for the lead role. The show is being produced and run by Craig Silverstein, which will have Nikita, a highly trained assassin for a mysterious organization who goes on the run. Her former agency is then forced to train a replacement and, one presumes, hunt her down.
I've been following Maggie's career since the awesome action flick, Naked Weapon and her Stateside turns in “Mission Impossible 3″ and “Live Free or Die Hard”. She also finished shooting “Priest” with Paul Bettany which will be out later this year. I say it's about time we got some diversity in television and all the roles not go to just white actors and actresses. Most people like myself love watching an action series that's not only well-written, but stars someone who is beautiful and can kick ass and take names all under the same breath. While some believe this might be a step down for her career-wise, I don't think it is.

Maggie is a big star in Hong Kong action movies, and like Jet Li and Jackie Chan, she's trying to make it big in the American movie market. While there aren't many action roles tailor made for people like Maggie Q. (who does all her own stunts), I feel with her role in MI:3 she was totally wasted (you know Tom Cruise was not letting someone more physically athletic and prettier than him upstage him in his own movie). She did fare better in Live Free or Die Hard when she icked Bruce Willis' ass. She hasn't signed on the dotted line yet, but I've got my fingers crossed. I do hope that if she does her career will fare better than previous Nikita Peta Wilson. If Q. decides not to do it maight I suggest Zoe Bell? She's an amazing martial artist and stunt woman.
