Say what you want about members of girl groups, who wind up putting out mediocre solo albums, but Nadine Coyle, one of the members of U.K. group Girls Aloud might be on the right track. While we have GA member Cheryl Cole releasing a solo record with two good songs on her album (Fight For This Love, and Parachute), as well as horrible production by Will.I.Am, Nadine has hit the studio with producers William Orbit and trance DJ Tiesto.
Growing up in the rave scene, I have been a longtime fan of DJ Tiesto, who is a legend in dance clubs around the world. Recently he has collaborated with mainstream artists like Nelly Furtado, Tegan & Sara, Three 6 Mafia and Sean Kingston.
William Orbit is a well-known producer of plush trip hop and electronic music as well as a solo artist. He has worked with P!nk, Sugababes, and All Saints, but may be well known for producing Madonna’s 1998 Grammy Award-winning (and one of my favorite all-time Madonna albums) Ray of Light.
Besides Orbit and Tiesto, Nadine has collaborated with Tony Kanal of No Doubt, Guy Chambers, Toby Gad, Randy Jackson and Desmond Child. The first single from the album is due this Summer.
I'm glad to see the members of Girls Aloud stepping outside of what they are used to doing, and is willing to show different sides of themselves on a solo level. Now if Nadine's production choices can live up to the quality of the music, I will be first in line to buy her record when it comes out. I just hope the Girls Aloud members can release solo records and come together when it's time to release a group album. You all don't need to suffer the same fate as Sugababes.
