Many were saddened by the death of teen heartthrob Corey Feldman, who many may know from his standout roles in Lucas and one of my favorites, The Lost Boys. Corey Feldman, 38, who starred with Haim, 38, in eight films and a short-lived reality series called 'The Two Coreys,' took to his blog to talk about his friend, whom he says he stopped talking to until he got clean and sober:
“I was awakened at 8:30 this morning by my brother and sister knocking on my bedroom door. They informed me of the loss of my brother Corey Haim. My eyes weren’t even open all the way when the tears started streaming down my face. I am so sorry for Corey, his mother Judy, his family, my family, all of our fans, and of course my son who I will have to find a way to explain this to when he gets home from school. This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family, and best friend. We must all take this as a lesson in how we treat the people we share this world with while they are still here to make a difference. Please respect our families as we struggle and grieve through this difficult time. I hope the art Corey has left behind will be remembered as the passion of that for which he truly lived.”
Tragically, Corey is the latest to succomb to his battle with drugs, because he suffered from what many in this business suffers from, and that's trying to find your way beyond the teen idoldom. Once Corey grew up, he couldn't find a way to transition from teen idol to adult movie star. It also didn't help that his decades long battle with prescription drugs is what did him in. This is something that needs to be addressed that how is it someone could do years of heroin, crack, and other street drugs, but the minute you abuse your body with legal pharmaceuticals, that's what always winds up killing you. Heath Ledger, Michael Jackson, Brittany Murphy - we are losing too many people to prescription drugs.
