Chris Evans (Human Torch in the horrible "Fantastic Four" films) has signed on the dotted line to play Steve Rogers/Captain America in the Joe Johnston-directed The First Avenger: Captain America. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely wrote the script.
Instead of waiting to see if the CA films would become successful, Marvel studios had Evans sign on to star in at least three "Captain America" movies, with the first hitting theaters on July 22, 2011.
He would reprise the role in The Avengers, which will unite Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the Incredible Hulk (Edward Norton) in one film. That film is scheduled for May 4, 2012. The character also will likely make cameo appearances in Marvel's other films.
Hugo Weaving 9The Matrix, V for Vendetta) has signed on to play the villain Red Skull in The First Avenger: Captain America. Hopefully they will follow the formula of Iron Man and concoct a good script instead of rushing out a mediocre mess like First Origins: Wolverine and the last two Hulk films. I actually think Chris Evans is a good choice, since he was the best thing to come out of Fantastic Four. He's a good actor and might I add easy on the eyes. This is definitely an upgrade on his career.
