According to New York Magazine's Vulture, Angelina Jolie has dropped out of Wanted 2 and since she declined to return, Universal Pictures had decided to pull the plug.
Well Scotland's television channel STV sat down with Wanted co-creator Mark Millar and asked him to clear up the rumors. Millar said the sequel would still go ahead but they would have to do some "plot modifications" to introduce a new character rather than the plans to have Jolie's character Fox return. Millar talks about the reasoning for making a sequel and trying to figure out a way to bring some of the dead characters back from the original, but he's optimistic they can figure out a cool way to work around the latest roadblock. As he says at the end, "it changes every day" and there's a chance that Universal haven't quite decided what to do as of yet or whether a sequel would work without Jolie.
I liked Wanted. It had some cool action scenes and I'm always a sucker for seeing Angelina in an action role. Wanted had the potential to be a great movie, but was uneven at some parts. Maybe now that we've gotten the origin with the first film they can concentrate on some good dialogue and jaw dropping action scenes? I am bummed that she won't return, but since she's not returning, how about bringing in Milla Jovovich? She's really good with action and I think she'd be perfect for the sequel. Maggie Q is another good choice. Also Zoe Saldana who I loved in Avatar and Star Trek and looks promising in The Losers. Let's also throw Mila Kunis' hat in the ring, who has proven herself to be quite the action star in both Max Payne and The Book of Eli.
