Everyone was surprised when Mariah's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel flopped. Then recently she announced she was going on tour to support Memoirs and her upcoming remix album, 'Angel's Advocate.' Naysayers said it was a bad move for Mimi, who's hit musical career is fading faster than you can say Janet Jackson (although some of the demos I've heard from Miss J. may get her back on the dance/pop map where she belongs).
Well according to reports, Mariah's having a hard time selling tickets, which shows the diva struggling to fill up the small 3,000 seat venues she’s been performing at.
Mariah performed in Atlanta last month at the Fox Theatre and only sold 2,833 seats out of the total 3,719, and at a show at DAR Construction Hall she only filled 2,430 seats out of the available 3,166.
Also don't forget she's scheduled to release Angels Advocate on March 30 and a dance remix cd by the Jump Smokers is also in the works.
I feel Mariah needs to learn the hard way like Leona Lewis. No one is interested in listening to boring ballads sung by singers with heavily-guarded personal lives and outdated tracks. Unfortunately, it's all about Rihanna, lady Gaga, and Beyonce, where music lovers want performance and art with their music. Mariah's been working the same tired schtick for years and her latest music hasn't had the same impact as 'The Emancipation of Mimi.' She also needs better music video concepts. Case in point the terrible video for a mediocre song, 'Angels Cry ft. Ne*yo." I think Mariah's so focused on being a hood chick and has abandoned her international pop base that ex-husband Tommy Mottola helped Mariah achieve. I also yearn for the days when Mariah used to hit the studio and re-record her vocals over a David Morales disco remix. I also think fans aren't willing to pay to see a singer stand still for two hours and wave her hands like she's hailing a taxi. People want to see spectacle and performance, and that's why RiRi, Madonna, Kylie, Britney, Gaga and all the pop atars who dance as well as sing will continue to outgross Mariah.
Here's one final though. Maybe after she promotes the remix record she should take a break and focus on acting. Shewas really good during her brief scenes in Precious.
