As much as I love my films by StagHomme, Raging Stallion, and Lucas Entertainment, I wanted to take a moment to talk about something that's often overlooked in the adult film industry. The lack of black performers acknowledged by thegay porn mainstream media. It's unfortunate like when BET had to create it's own Hip Hop Awards because the Grammy's and other mainstream award shows refuse to acknowledge a breaking force in the industry besides Country, black folk have to create their own adult entertainment award in order to get some kind of acknowledgement. Growing up, I remember my best friend showing me Tiger's Brroklyn Tails for the first time and I immediately got excited. Never in my life did I think I would see guys from my hood that looked like me getting it on with another man...and loving it. Ever since then I have been a big fan of porn. I continued to watch anything by Enrique Cruz, especially my favorite film of his called 'Aprende.' We haven't hear much from him in the past few years, but that hasn't stopped others from continuing the legacy that Enrique has left, finding attractive black and latino men who love sucking, kissing and fucking each other without playing up the straight bullshit that is often white fantasy (read: anything by Latino Fan Club). The Rikers Island, herion-induced eroticism is tired.
I had often yearned for a gay Black & Latino erotic company to take it to the next level, with some hot sex chiffoned with amazing cinematography great lighting, and actually show respect to men of color instead of exploiting them like mandingoed lab rats. Now that technology has gotten better, and with so much software out there, you can film inexpensive movies and make it look like you spent a million bucks. The 2010 Blatino Oasis Erotica Awards have stepped up to the plate for years and have provided us with positive work for erotic workers of color. Here are a few nominees this year that I feel are well deserved of the awards they will recieve when the 2010 BOEA kick off May 7-10 in Palm Springs. While many adult film stars are clammering to get people to vote on them to host the Glammy Awards, this is a show I would love to host or at least see filmed for the internet.
