Someone upstairs must have heard me, because I have to say it's about damn time! While the new STARZ series 'Spartacus' will have your share of300-inspired heightened visual style, lots of sex and graphic violence, I am glad execs allowed the creators behing the new series to include what HBO's series Rome neglected to. Gay gladiators.

In the first picture above, the uber-studly Andy Whitfield plays the title character and is definitely giving you sexy man. Antonio Te Maioha plays Barca, Batiatus' bodyguard and hitman who happens to be gay. I have to say he's definitely a hottie, since I love my men a bit grimy, and not afriad to get their hands dirty. he also fills out his leather warrior Speedo quite well if you ask me. What i love about Roman and Greek mythology is that there was no sexuality in those times. Women got with women and men got with men and it wasn't an issue. it wasn't until christianity reared it's ugly head on society people began fearing the things that make us human. I'm sure with all the sex going on the show it will be met with protests (since when is bad publicity a bad thing?), but if Spartacus is portrayed accurately and truthful, I'm sure it will build a huge following.
Lucy Lawless (Xena:Warrior Princess) also stars, along with Peter Mensah (who you may be familiar with from the Brendan Fraser 'Mummy' series). He will play Doctore, Manu Bennett as Crixus, Craig Parker as Glaber, and Nick E. Taraby as Ashur. Steven S. DeKnight, the headwriter for Spartacus: Blood and Sand was a former writer for Angel, and the show was produced by Lawless' Rob Tapert who produces another syndicated show that I love called Legend of the Seeker. I think what should also be given a shot (if Spartacus does well) is a series on Alexander the Great. Not only could they explore his reign as king, but also his love for the booze and the boys.
