After a constant delay of script problems, and drama between director Sam Raimi and the studio, it has become official that both Raimi and star of the franchise, Tobey Maguire, have quit the Spider Man franchise.
According to socialitelife, Columbia Pictures has decided instead to produce a version of Spider-Man that focuses on a high-school age Peter Parker, complete with a brand new cast and director. Despite the split, Sam Raimi claims there are no hard feelings.
Raimi explains, "While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job."
maybe Raimi was over the Spider Man franchise. I don't understand why when you make a company lots of moolah, they won't leave you to you own devices. I guess with great budgets come great responsibility and when you overload a film with too many villains, you shouldn't be surprised when your movie performs worse than expected. I could see why Columbia would be nervous. I don't know where in their mind do they think making Spider Man younger is going to generate a fresh story and ideas. There's enough Spider Man comics around to generate a new script. Why don't they just hire Zac Efron and make it a series for the CW?
