Her Milkshake may have brought all the boys to the yard, but shortly after she seemed to banished from the face of the earth. now that she's divorced rapper Nas and is playing mommy to a newborn, Kelis is getting back to what she does best...making music. Kelis has always been a rebel in her music and videos, and she was naked painted in a Kaleidoscope of colors on the cover of her debut album long before Lady Gaga sytarted painting her face. She was HUGE all over the world but could never make it big in the States. Yea 'Milkshake' pushed her third album 'Tasty' to the gold landmark here, and 'Bossy' from her fourth record Kelis Was Here sold a million ringtones, but I always saw Kelis who could be as successful as beyonce. With her upcoming fifth album, she just might get the attention her music deserves.
Kelis has gotten her mind right and most recently signed a new record deal with will.i.am/Interscope and her forthcoming album may get a release in Spring 2010. What's cool about her upcoming CD, is that she recorded a majority of it in her home studio without the bacing of a record label. Kelis has stated that her album will have a 'futuristic disco sound' and says that the birth of her son Knight inspired her.
"Originally I wanted to do something electro," she added about the album's feel. "I kind of went through all these different phases of what I wanted it to be. In recording stuff, it kept changing. Finally it got to this really electronic, dance, really melodic vibe. Everything started to come in that space. I started to fall in love with it. It took a life unto itself. It wasn't calculated. ... All the stuff I fell in love with and stuff I was writing fell into that space. It's sort of a new-age disco — futuristic disco."

Producers blessing her album are Will.i.am, Free School, Boyz Noize, Brunz, and DJ Ammo. What really got me anticipated with excitement s word that she's collaborating with one of my favorite new groups, La Roux. According to her manager, he says — 'it’s her best body of work to date and if you are a Kelis fan, it’s the type of album that you’ve been waiting from her to deliver. We are really, really excited about it, to get on the road and get back in front of her fans. The label is 110% behind her, we have an amazing team with all hands on deck. I expect that 2010 will be the year that she finally gets the credit she has been long overdue as an artist who’s remained very honest, innovative and true since she released her debut album over a decade ago.'

It's also awesome to know that Kelis has been keeping busy in other venues as well. It's not a secret that she loves to cook-even releasing a cookbook a few years back. She is now a certified chef who graduated from culinary school last year. Her true passion, aside from music has always been food and she is also very hard at work on launching her own sauce line, which is absolutely del!cious!
If Kelis decides to take a break from music (which I hope she won't) could we possibly see her cooking up something fancy with her own cooking show?
