All I have to say on this is it's about damn time! Ever since gospel singer-cum-ambassador for all things ex-gay Donnie McClurkin has come out against gays at his church (and most recently in a anti-gay sermon he gave on YouTube), black NYC gays have refused to go down quietly.
Gay and Lesbian black folk here in NYC have grown sick and tired of McClurkin — an outspoken and homophobic gospel singer and preacher who’s made a serious habit of hating on the Gays in oh-so public ways, but when he leaves his pulpit, has been known to get down with the queens in his entourage he consistantly hates on. Doth we protest a bit too much, Miss Honey!
As many gays are aware, once you are born gay, there is no cure to going into something that is not who you are. I'm sure if there were a pill to make gays stop being constantly bashed by ignorant heterosexuals, we'd all be online like the mutants in X3. So for McClurkin to be the most visible member of the growing “ex-Gay” movement, is downright scary. He also blames sexual abuse as to why he became "dark-sided." So now that he's the only one who has mastered the art of praying the gay away, and has devoted his ENTIRE existance to spiritual work to the "GOD" who hates gays (Last time I checked, GOD loved everyone), he is now cured of the gay disease.
Today, the FULL-PAGE advertisement above ran in the city-wide Metro New York newspaper — the free paper handed out by the thousands to commutes all across town.
Supported by the Gay/Black/Christian-focused group GayByGod.net — the ad essentially demands homophobes like McClurkin to stop hating on the Gays and begin to do God’s real work of loving and supporting one another.
Most importantly, the ad is a very necessary step by the Gay Black community to end the silence and anti-LGBT bigotry often preached from the pulpit.
“We want to be sure that Mr. McClurkin realizes that he is NOT God,” says BMG Network Co-Chair Sheldon DeSouza, “and we will no longer sit silently in the pews as he deflects his own personal issues”.
Amen to that! This has been a long time coming, since oftentimes, black gays haven't been most visible within the LGBT community. Hopefully, with Ms. McCluckcluck's consistant desperation to be poppin his booty in the club with the rest of the faggots he condemns, black gays will finally have a voice in the LGBT mainstream community.
What business is it of his who people sleep with? If you want to live in denial and lead a woman on so that you won't be judged and ridiculed by some of the most judgemental folk within your Christian community, then by all means, continue to live your life in denial and misery. But don't judge others on something we cannot help. Gays exist, and are not going anywhere. If that's a problem for you, you need to leave New York. Hell, maybe you need to leave the planet.
