THE INSPIRATION BEHIND RIHANNA'S "RATED R"

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

How cool is this? I was surfing the web (you know, as I susally do to get all my celebrity info), and I've always wanted to know what was the inspiration behind Rihanna's album cover. While immediately upon first viewing of the albums visuals I thought "Grace Jones," I was really surprised that the man behind the creative visuals was none other than Simon Henwood. For those who don't know, Simon has been a longtime collaborator of Roisin Murphy and his credits include celebrated painter, filmmaker, set designer and brand visionary. He will also be working closely with Rihanna on her forthcoming world tour, including the show's stage design, costumes and background visuals.

Here is what he told Arjanwrites.com:

"We talked extensively for months before the album's release, and looked at every aspect of the campaign-from styling to stage ideas and visuals. Everything comes from the music, and this is her most personal album to date - so everything draws from it in one way or another."

Continues Henwood: "There is a great story that will unfold through the campaign, and finally reveal on the tour... partly inspired by the film - The Omega Man and of course ideas from the songs - as well as Rihanna's personal visions."

Can't wait to see the tour. i'm sure if the folks over at Def Jam were smart, they'll be prepping cameras to capture some concert footage for a future concert DVD.
